چکیده

The aim of this study was to develop two new variants of porous composites based on collagen-chondroitin sulfate-hydroxyapatite (COL-CS-HA) mixtures. Electron microscopy examination showed that the composites had a microporous structure, with HA deposits nonhomogeneously disposed on COL fibrous bundles. Their porosity was higher than 90 % and the biodegradation in the presence of collagenase was reduced after UV treatment of the scaffolds. Composite biocompatibility was evaluated by MTT assay and light microscopy after cultivation in a human osteoblast primary culture. All COL-based materials showed a good in vitro biocompatibility, but COL-CS-HA composites presented better cell proliferation and adhesion than COL material. These porous composites demonstrate potential for future application as cell scaffolds in bone tissue engineering.

Chitosan Composites for Bone Tissue Engineering—An Overview

Bone contains considerable amounts of minerals and proteins. Hydroxyapatite [Ca₁₀(PO₄)₆(OH)₂] is one of the most stable forms of calcium phosphate and it occurs in bones as major component (60 to 65%), along with other materials including collagen, chondroitin sulfate, keratin sulfate and lipids. In recent years, significant progress has been made in organ transplantation, surgical reconstructi...

Evaluation of Biopolymers Effect on In vitro Biocompatibility Property of Nano Hydroxyl Apatite Composites

In this work, we report the effect of biopolymers (starch and gelatin) on in vitro biocompatibility property of nano hydroxyapatite (nHAp) composites. Cell culture and MTT assays were performed for in vitro biocompatibility. They show that nHAp can affect the proliferation of cells and the nHAp-starch and nHAP-gelatin biocomposites have no negative effect on the cell morphology, viability and p...

Biocompatibility Assessment of Novel Collagen-Sericin Scaffolds Improved with Hyaluronic Acid and Chondroitin Sulfate for Cartilage Regeneration

Cartilage tissue engineering (CTE) applications are focused towards the use of implantable biohybrids consisting of biodegradable scaffolds combined with in vitro cultured cells. Hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) were identified as the most potent prochondrogenic factors used to design new biomaterials for CTE, while human adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) were proved to display...

High Biological performance of Silicon Substituted Nano Hydroxyapatite Synthesized in Simulated Body Fluid at 37°C

In this work, we report high biological performance of silicon substituted nano hydroxyapatite (nHA) prepared by immersion of calcium phosphate and sodium silicate as precursors in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF) solution for 24, 36, 48 and 72 hrs at 37°C. Characterization and chemical analysis of the synthesized powders were performed by Fourier transform, infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powde...
